"The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you." - Genesis 12:1

As a child, I lived in several states while growing up.  After Sandy and I were married, we relocated to Indiana, but lived in several areas of the state.  Shelbyville was the one location where we stayed the longest and established what many would call home or “roots”.  Here we raised our family, developed great friendships, and were blessed in a wonderful ministry.

In the midst of this stability, God placed circumstances in our lives that called us to central Illinois.  Since Shelbyville was now really “home”, it was a tough decision to move on.  We experienced what Genesis 12:1 communicates; leave home, family, and friends and follow God’s leading. The phrase that “God has our best interests at heart” is easily said but can be very difficult to live out.  Whether it is moving half way around the globe, to another state, or just across town, our readiness to follow His leading “to go” is critical to our relationship and growth in Him.

It all comes down to our willingness to trust.  Do we really believe and have confidence that God knows what He is doing as He molds us into the likeness of His Son?  To paraphrase C. S. Lewis, we must strive “to take the adventure that God puts before us”.  Only then will we really know what it is like to walk in Him and be who He wants us to be.

Father, give me the Spirit that provides the strength to GO when you call me to a new adventure, and a heart to trust You to form me into Your likeness for Your glory and Kingdom.  Your will be done, on earth (and in my life), as it is in heaven. . . . Amen
