For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light. Colossians 1:9-12
These scriptures have really made an impact on my life and I’m excited to be able
to share them with you.
I’m going to start with the last verse and then get back to the first verse and
"and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has QUALIFIED you to share in the inheritance of his holy people."
When I was asked to write a devotional I immediately felt the doubt and fear creep in that’s very familiar to me. I started thinking, “I’m not good enough to be telling others what scriptures mean or guiding them in reading God’s Word. I’m not the greatest at reading my daily devotions and maybe I don’t pray enough to help others…. so on and so forth!” I stopped myself and began to pray and it was VERY clear that God was telling me LOUD AND CLEAR, “Brooke, I use broken and messed up people to lead other broken and messed up people to Me all the time. Stop making this about you and look to Me for help and guidance. I died to make you worthy and ‘good enough,' go share that with others (Disciple)!”
Then I found out what scriptures I had and as I read verse 12 I was overwhelmed with the magnitude of His love for me! No matter what my current situation is I am a Child of the King and I have the freedom to share that with others! The freedom to be a disciple of Christ!
Now, backing up to verses 9-11, I have found myself praying a prayer very similar to this for friends and family many times. I always ask God for wisdom and discernment that only the Holy Spirit can bring, and strength and guidance to live a life pleasing to Him, because I surely can’t do that by my own strength.
I would like to encourage you as you dig into the Word of God to always remember that you are QUALIFIED and WORTHY to share the Gospel! You are QUALIFIED for discipleship! No matter what your situation, no matter what you’re currently struggling with; Christ died on the cross so that we could be saved and then share that with those around us so they can be saved! It’s the best feeling in the world to share the Good News with others and watch the transformation as they surrender their life to Jesus!
Prayer: Hey God, I would like to pray for the strength and courage to accept my qualification to be a disciple and __________________________________________________________________.
