We speak words every day. Sometimes we talk without thinking, and that is what makes us human. In Proverbs 18 verse 21 it tells us," The tongue can bring life or death; Those who love to talk will reap consequences."
The verse may sound crazy at first. What do you mean my tongue? To allow this to make more sense let's break it up. When the verse talks about "The Tongue" it is talking about words that can bring life or death. This isn't physical death. It means death within our spirit and heart. Verse 8 states, " Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one's heart."
The words you hear and say sink deep into your heart and are hard to easily forget. We as Christians must watch what we say and hear. Proverbs 21:23 says," Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble."
God plain out tells us what harsh or bad words bring to us — trouble and spiritual death. We must be calm, kind, and friendly with our words.
Proverbs 18:13 says,"Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish."
Re-read that verse. Okay. Now mentally raise your hand if you've ever made an assumption, and it was completely wrong? I have.
This verse tells us not to run off without hearing the full truth. We must listen to all the facts. We can not just make assumptions on our own about what we may think is true, because THAT is foolish.
Verse 15 says, " Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge."
We must always have our ears open for the word of God, our Father. We must keep out ears open, and tuned to him. We must block the channel that holds society; even if it seems scary. We must learn to listen.
Who has a best friend? I bet you do. That person is so close to you. You tell them all of your secrets, history, and stories.
Proverbs 18:24 says," There are "friends" who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother."
We must be careful who we pick as our friends. We do not want some one who will tear us apart, and not support us with Christ. Your friend or best friend will need to be able to be right beside you... ALWAYS. They will be closer then a brother. They will be your support. The everything you'll need.
Wrap up in one:
Proverbs 11:9 says," With their words the Godless destroy their friends, but knowledge will rescue the righteous."
God tells us how harmful our words can be. Your friends may become destroyed by them. We hear about knowledge/wisdom, listening, she brings us a rescue. She, wisdom, is our life boat that will save us from our words, and protect our friends.
All you need is prayer and effort.
Ask: Father, please show me your beautiful wisdom. Guide me in the words I choose to say and listen to each day. Help me create my friendships better then they are. Allow me to shine in your un-ending light with my best friend by my side.
Thank: Father, I thank you for giving me what you have. I have *insert multiple things you have*. I love you so, Father. You are everything I need. Your love NEVER fails. You died to know me. You show the greatest affection. I love you.
In Jesus' name Amen.
